Hi, I'm Sakina!
*Currently Accepting New Clients*
As someone who has learned to navigate two different cultures with two different sets of values, I’ve realized the impact of how the stories you are told about yourself and your culture shape your views of yourself as well as your relationships with others. Whether in individual or couples therapy, I will help you learn how to embrace your authentic self while also cultivating loving connection in relationships.
I believe that we are all relational beings who are longing for connection. Sometimes it can feel hard to balance caring for ourselves as well as being there for the ones that we love. This includes our romantic relationships, where oftentimes a lack of communication can lead to a feeling of disconnection and even isolation. Oftentimes disconnection can result from both partners feeling misunderstood. As a couples therapist, I will help you understand the “why” behind your ways of communicating with your partner. I serve as an interpreter who helps you communicate your language of love to each other in ways that strengthen your bond and increase your connection.
The relationship you have with yourself is the longest relationship you will ever have. Changing your relationship with yourself also allows you to change your relationship with others to create a more fulfilling life that allows you to flourish in life and in love.
ON BEING A THERAPIST
As the oldest child of Sudanese immigrants, I know first hand what it’s like to feel misunderstood while trying to balance the pressures of perfectionism and supporting your parents. When I couldn’t find a therapist who could relate to my immigrant experience, I felt isolated and alone. Through therapy, I learned to trust my own intuition and developed an open outlook on life while embracing my imperfections. I later realized that I was not alone on this journey and I began to connect with others who share similar experiences while also connecting more deeply with myself.
As a therapist, I am committed to helping you heal by facilitating your connection to your authentic self as you learn to trust your own internal map both individually and relationally. You are worthy of love, connection, and healing.
